Mini-Review: Forgotten Home #1-3

Through the first three issues of the eight issue digital series Forgotten Home through Vices Press on Comixology, we see Sheriff’s Deputy Lorraine Adalet investigating several strange child abductions. Soon enough, Lorraine’s past comes back to haunt her and we find out these children were taken using magic from her homeland, a place she despises and did everything should could to keep herself and her daughter away from.

Written by Erica Schultz (who was a past guest on the Fresh is the Word Podcast), this story takes place between a world here on Earth and the magical world of Jannada, which is Lorraine’s homeland. When it comes down to it, no matter the setting, its all about the problems that many families go through with questioning tradition or setting out on your own path. Unfortunately for this family, both paths come with some dire consequences. How does Lorraine stay away from her problematic family and home and protect herself, her daughter, and those affected by her decisions? Does she need to stop running from her past and defend her path so no one gets hurt? And does she protect others that the customs of Jannada have hurt?

The magical world of Jannada that Erica Schultz has created with Forgotten Home isn’t overly fantastical, so the audience can feel it exists. Through the backstory given already, another question can be posed. Can Jannada find it’s way to a more benevolent spirit and find a more thoughtful ruler?
